One of my absolute favorite parts of how we walk the Camino is our starting time each day. Our plan is to be out of the albergue/hostel at least a half hour before sunrise, if not an hour. This lets us get some miles in early while witnessing the dramatic change that happens across the Spanish landscape as the dawn introduces warmth and the brilliance of glorious colors. For us, this is a reminder of the richness of God’s blessings in our lives. We typically mark the moment with a song, followed by a few minutes of reflection on, and discussion about, a psalm. Having this practicesets the tone for the rest of the day. Plus, the early miles get us closer to the first coffee stop of the day.
