While in the U.S. we had the opportunity to attend my grandmother’s 87th birthday party. This was a very special evening for our whole family. My grandmother is very much the matriarch and center of our family. For as long as I can remember, anytime we had a family gathering it was at her house, eating food she worked hard to prepare. Her house is where I remember spending so many Christmases and Thanksgivings. Missing those kinds of occasions is one of the hardest parts of living where we live and doing what we do. That’s why our being home for this party was so special. It was the first time in several years that all of my grandmother’s grandchildren were present with her. The evening was filled with lots of fun, laughter, and catching up. It did my heart good to hear how life is going with cousins who I grew up with and now have children of their own. It was also fun to watch E play with cousins he never gets to see. One other special moment was taking a 4 generation photo with my Dad, grandmother, and Eli. It’s a moment I’ll cherish.
