Last week our community of friends got together to bake pies. A local non-profit organization was giving away 20 turkeys and stuffing to families who would otherwise not afford to have such a feast at Thanksgiving. One of our friends had the fantastic idea that our group should spend an evening baking a pumpkin pie to go along with each dinner.
It was a blast, and easy too! (To be fair, the extent of my baking was putting the finished pie mix into the pie crusts.) The non-profit was gracious enough to let us use their facilities, which were extremely nice. We had a great time hanging out together and baking pies. Sometimes I take for granted how easy it is for me to give something that others do not have the luxury of having. I understand that it is just a pie, but I think it is representative of so many greater things in life. Needless to say, it was a great lesson
on serving others for me. (I think I detect a theme in my life right now.) I definitely hope that this will become a tradition for us and our friends.
