This past Friday I took another day to continue working on the new album. It was a good day, but it was very draining. I always forget how taxing it can be to remain extremely focused on one single thing for so long. There are a lot of things that you have to remain aware of and stay attentive to as you record. It is very easy to get distracted. It’s at the moment you get distracted that you make a mistake. And making a single mistake costs extra time. I don’t know exactly how many times I played through all of the songs. But I am sure of one thing. If the arrangements of the songs weren’t memorized before I started playing that day, they are seared into brain now. Actually, they were memorized. It was nice just to play and not have to think about every chord that was coming up next.

The picture above was taken in my friend P.’s living room. We converted it into a makeshift recording studio for the day. There is nothing like critiquing yourself over and over as you listen to a recording of you playing an instrument or singing. I was able to lay down some of the guitar tracks as well as some of the vocals. I’m eager to hear the finished result, although it will be a while before it’s done. The next day of recording is this Sunday. It should be a lot of fun.
