Today D and I took a couple of our friends (JR and CR) up to Maine. They had never been, so it was a lot of fun for us to show them around some of the sights along the coast of southern Maine. Both JR and CR had also never tried Lobster, so we found a place for them to try Maine Lobster for the first time.
It has been a while since D and I made a road trip up to Maine, so this was a lot of fun for us. We retraced our normal route when taking first-timers. We find it fun to drive along the coast, seeing miles and miles of the rocky coastline and fishing villages.
The highlight for me was picnicking next the Atlantic, feeling the salty, cool breeze hitting me in the face. It was a great day…a bit warm but not too hot. It was so nice to walk on the beach while skipping and throwing rocks into the crashing waves. To give JR the full experience, I showed him how cold the Atlantic is here in comparison to the Gulf of Mexico. It was nice to step ankle deep (I wasn’t going any deeper! It’s too cold!) into the freezing cold water and toss rocks in while talking with my friend. Of course another highlight is seeing the Bush family compound in Kennebunkport. It seemed like they were there today. There were tons of Coastguard ships patrolling, military helicopters hovering and state troopers directing traffic on the quiet streets of Kenebunkport.
It was a great day and some much needed time to relax.
